Gabriel Cheah’s "COLLAPSE": A Journey of Harmony Through Chaos

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 AUGUST 2024 — Named by the artist of COLLAPSE, Gabriel Cheah, Emperor Palace proudly presented the Gabriele Cabinet at the exhibition. This Italian-made masterpiece (named after the Italian poet, Gabriele D'Annunzio) features a luxurious marble top, with beautiful wooden carvings and ornate brass ornaments. This is then highlighted by the amazing hand-painted fruit motifs.

Emperor Palace, Malaysia’s leading name in classical luxury furniture, proudly marked a new milestone by collaborating with emerging Malaysian artist Gabriel Cheah for his debut solo art exhibition, titled "COLLAPSE." The exhibition, curated by Iz Sulaini of KolmeGlu, took place on 4 July 2024 at the distinguished HARTA Space, an arts venue operated by HABIB Jewels.

This groundbreaking exhibition presented 16 thought-provoking works by Gabriel Cheah, blending ceramics, crystal, and contemporary sculpture to create a serene vision of a post-apocalyptic world. The pieces explore themes of rebirth, resilience, and hope—each one meticulously designed to evoke harmony, balance, and positive energy.

"COLLAPSE" is more than an art show; it is a meditative journey through destruction and revival.

Emperor Palace played a central role in shaping the immersive experience by furnishing the exhibition space with select pieces from its esteemed Classical Italian Collection. Signature items such as the Pamela Armchair, Gabriele Console Cabinet, Alexandra Marble Dining Table, and Botticelli Neoclassical Tea Set were showcased throughout the space, adding a layer of grandeur and narrative richness to the artworks. These pieces embodied the themes of legacy and opulence, offering a tangible connection between the past and the future.

The inspiration behind this collaboration drew heavily from the historical significance of classical design—particularly the cultural heritage of Renaissance-era Europe. As "COLLAPSE" explores a world rebuilt through rediscovered meaning and enduring craftsmanship, Emperor Palace’s timeless furniture provided the perfect complement, grounding the contemporary artworks in centuries-old tradition.

This collaboration also marks Emperor Palace’s first venture into the Malaysian art scene. By bridging classical luxury furniture with contemporary artistic innovation, the brand signals its commitment to supporting local creative talents. As Emperor Palace moves forward, it aims to become a key player in connecting heritage design with modern expression—offering a new generation of artists and collectors a chance to experience the elegance and cultural depth of classical furniture in a fresh, meaningful context.
