Our opulent Giovanni sofa set is named after Giovanni Bellini, who was a renowned Italian Renaissance painter. Giovanni Bellini was considered to have revolutionised Venetian painting, moving it toward a more sensuous and colouristic style. Through the use of clear, slow-drying oil paints, Giovanni created deep, rich tints and detailed shadings. His sumptuous colouring and fluent, atmospheric landscapes had a great effect on the Venetian painting school, especially on his pupils Giorgione and Titian. In fact, Giovanni left two major legacies to the art world. First was his skill in bringing a tangible sense of ambience to his painting, and second, the new possibilities he opened up when he imbued religious deities with corporeal qualities. He was truly one of the greatest, most influential Old Masters of Renaissance art.
