Jeanne was named after one of history’s greatest saints, Jeanne d’Arc (or Joan of Arc in English). Jeanne d’Arc was born in 1412 in the village of Domrémy, in northeastern France, to a peasant family. It is said that Jeanne began hearing voices at the age of 13 instructing her to lead France to victory in its long-running war with England, and to install Charles VII as its rightful king. According to legend, she won over the future king by revealing information that only a messenger from God could know. With no military training, Jeanne led a French army to the besieged city of Orléans, where it achieved a momentous victory over the English and their French allies, the Burgundians.
