Jeanne d’Arc was born in 1412 in the village of Domrémy, in northeastern France, to a peasant family. It is said that Jeanne began hearing voices at the age of 13 instructing her to lead France to victory in its long-running war with England, and to install Charles VII as its rightful king. According to legend, she won over the future king by revealing information that only a messenger from God could know. With no military training, Jeanne led a French army to the besieged city of Orléans, where it achieved a momentous victory over the English and their French allies, the Burgundians.
